The popular Salomon Speedcross 5 men’s trail Running Shoes – Review

Worldwide, The popular Salomon Speedcross 5 men’s trail Running Shoes is the best-selling trail shoe of all. It is so popular that many have also chosen to use it as everyday and leisure shoes! Incidentally, the whole philosophy behind Salomon is to give consumers the best opportunities to “play” and or practice their sport while being in contact with nature. Salomon is constantly working to develop gears that adapt to the consumer’s needs so that they always get the best conditions.

The shoe experienced a significant revision in the winter of 2019 and is now better than it has been for many years. Do you use it correctly, ie. as it is designed for, you get an excellent trail running shoe for the runs away from the asphalt that can tackle pretty much any surface you will encounter on your way.

Salomon Speedcross 5 Story

The Speedcross series is characterized by good protection, good comfort, and an excellent grip on the surface. It offers an unsurpassed grip on both wet and dry rocks and furthermore provides space as one of the best shoes for off-trail technical movements.

So loyal fans of the series will not be disappointed. On the contrary, the Salomon Speedcross 5 is one of the best shoes in the legendary Speedcross series. And with an even better grip on the ground.

One of the most important parameters on which a trail shoe should be measured is, of course, its ability to ensure a stable foothold when running in soft, uneven and challenging terrain. Because that is exactly what primarily distinguishes a trail shoe from a road shoe.

The grip in the Salomon Speedcross 5 is really good and the Outsole in the Speedcross 5 has been updated on several points, and it has now become among the most aggressive you can find on the market. First of all, the buds have become wider and a few millimeters longer.

And then the placement of the individual buds is optimized so that they have a better grip, while at the same time, there is less risk of mud and dirt “packing” between the buds.

In addition to this enormously aggressive knob structure, the rubber mixture itself has become much more “sticky”. So Salomon has made an excellent effort to ensure that you stand firm on almost every conceivable type of surface.

Traction

Nor can we avoid being impressed by the traction and grip that the Speedcross 5 provides. It really grips into the ground, and it’s certainly not the fault of the shoes that some of the hills can be hard to get over. When running downhill you feel completely in control and it becomes easy to rely enough on the grip of the shoe to just give it an extra pace.

However, the knobs look quite violent, but that just means that you can easily use the shoe on harder surfaces. On ordinary forest paths/gravel paths, it works excellently. Longer runs on asphalt are as such not a problem either, although there will be better alternatives to this type of race, as the buds wear faster.

Midsole

That means, everything that lies between the outsole (with the knobs) and the foot itself inside the shoe, has generally become a little softer. It helps to make the shoe feel more comfortable.

Although the Speedcross 5 has a fairly thick sole (30 mm below the heel, 20 mm below the forefoot), you should not expect exactly the same softness and comfort as in a mass training shoe for the road.

Salomon Speedcross 5 is created for running in the softer terrain and therefore you do not need quite as much shock absorption as on hard surfaces such as asphalt. But generally, among trail running shoes, the Salomon Speedcross 5 is among the most comfortable and durable.

Heel

There have also been major changes in the heel area. The external “heel cap”, which extends all the way around the heel, goes in Speedcross 5 significantly higher up around the heel. It creates a kind of “bowl” around the heel, which gives a good and very stable hold on the back of the foot.

When you step down in Speedcross 5, you, therefore experience that the heel is supported from all sides. It’s actually a very comfortable feeling – and it gives a feeling of the foot being stuck. Speedcross 5 is also comfortably padded inside around the heel and Achilles tendon

Outsole

Salomon Speedcross is known for having an incredibly good grip in the ground, and in Speedcross 5, the new, aggressive knob configuration has made it even better. The knobs under the sole are designed to penetrate deep into the ground and provide maximum grip and traction, whether you are running uphill, downhill or making quick changes of direction.

Salomon Speedcross 5 A Stable Trail Shoe

Although the shoe has no definite pronation support, there is no doubt that the Salomon Speedcross 5 is among the most stable trail shoes on the market. And that may be one of the reasons why it is so popular.

In any case, the good support and good protection mean that the transition from road running to trail running will not feel quite as dramatic as if you jumped directly from a “padded, supportive road running shoe” into a pair of very “minimalist trail shoes“.

Salomon speedcross 5 – excellent upper

The upper part of the Salomon Speedcross 5 is simply a masterpiece. Yes, we could say that it is among the best upperparts, ever seen on a running shoe, ever! Also when we take the running shoes for the road into the equation.

It is super soft, almost padded on the inside, and then it has become significantly more flexible and more dynamic compared to the upper on Speedcross 4. As if it is better at adapting and following the movements of the foot.

At the same time, we find that the fit feels more relaxed – a little more spacious compared to Speedcross 4.

In addition, the upper is very elegant and delicious to look at. There are virtually no seams. All the supporting SensiFit “overlays” are now glued/welded on, and it just looks really good. It also feels very good on the foot, where these “triangular” overlays help to make the shoe more side-to-side stable.

The wider forefoot and toe box design significantly increase your running pleasure and comfort, giving people without the narrowest feet the opportunity to also enjoy the running pleasure of this shoe.

If you have been a long time fan of Speedcross, you get the opportunity to be just as pleasantly surprised by the latest version as we are, and if you’m looking for a new trail shoe that will hold up to everything, Speedcross 5 is the best place to start your search.

Salomon has a different approach to its products than many others. They do not want to make traditional products. On the other hand, they want to make unique products that are for the running specialist. Salomon running shoes are technically very complicated and are extremely competitive in the off-trail category, where they also compete against the trail brand Inov8.

The two brands are similar in many respects. Salomon is a major brand, and they have great benefits. Their cross is among the most popular product lines for runners who want to be in the woods, on mountains and through the water. Real cool running shoes for discerning runners.

Salomon speedcross 5 trail running shoes lacing system

Salomons has the classic Quicklace lacing system, where you lace up the shoe by pushing the locking mechanism down towards the shoe while pulling on the laces. Subsequently, you can then store the “lock” and the excess lacing in a small pocket, so that you avoid the lacing accidentally getting stuck in a branch or the like.

The tongue in Speedcross 5 is slightly longer than the tongue in Speedcross 4. It simply protrudes further out of the shoe. So it seems like it’s become easier to stuff the laces into the little pocket.

Overall, however, the lacing system in both shoes works flawlessly, although I know runners who prefer regular laces over Quicklace as it is a little easier to adjust the tension over the ankle. But it is without a doubt a matter of taste.

The Salomon Speedcross 4 was and is an excellent trail running shoe. But after testing the new Salomon Speedcross 5, there can be no doubt in my world: Salomon Speedcross 5 is simply better on ALL parameters. So, if you’ve been crazy about the 4th, then at least you do not go wrong in town by acquiring the 5th.

To you who have never tried a Speedcross from Salomon, I would say that you get a super all-round trail shoe with excellent grip and good comfort that you can use on all the runs that take place away from the asphalt.

Salomon Speedcross 5 Trail Running Shoes Men

Salomon running shoes stand out to that extent from the crowd. This can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. The downside is that some of Salomon’s shoe models have become fifty running shoes and casual shoes. And that can be a small disadvantage.

The shoe is a hit and a good buy if you are looking for an excellent trail shoe with great properties. Speedcross 5 is worth every penny. If you have to run in the woods, this is the right purchase for almost everyone.

Salomon Speedcross 5 for men is an all-around trail shoe that is perfect for running in the woods and many other places with terrain. The shoe’s sleek fit and its fantastic grip in the ground have made the Speedcross series the best-selling series of trail shoes worldwide.
